Too Much Vermouth
by Steve Mitchell
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was in 1974.
He made himself a drink and he took an olive, a green olive with a red pimiento, and he tossed the olive up into the ceiling fan.
The olive sailed through the moving fan blades untouched. Then, as the olive reached its zenith, the devil spun a quick 360 spin and held his drink out to one side.
The olive fell though the fan blades, again untouched, and landed, with a plunk, in the devil’s martini.
It was the greatest trick ever.
But no one saw it happen.
And no-one believes the devil when he tells them it happened.
And the devil lives in hell.
